IVANKA TRUMP and Jared Kushner are both senior advisers to US President Donald Trump – but former colleagues of Jared have claimed he is “unbearable” to work with.

Before working for his father-in-law in the White House, Jared worked for his father’s real estate company in New York. According to 2019 book ‘Kushner Inc’, while Jared co-chaired meetings with Charles Kushner, colleagues found he lacked any genuine interest in real estate and was poor with the details. Author Vicky Ward also wrote how he was an “imperious delegator”, simply referring employees to someone else if they asked him for specifics, like a leasing figure.

Despite this, he seemed to believe he was superior to those under him, telling the head of leasing on a project in DUMBO, Brooklyn: “If I had your job, I’d be so much better at it.”
Ms Ward said multiple sources claimed Jared was “doggedly unrealistic” about certain projects.
For example, he insisted on an asking price way over the market value for luxury penthouses at the top of the Puck Building in 2011.
Two of the properties were still empty seven years later and someone close to the project said Jared seemed to have a “reality distortion field” – a Star Trek term.

This term was famously used to describe Steve Jobs and how he used charisma and persistence to ignore the truth and convince people to believe what he needed them to believe at the time.
Jared also had unrealistic expectations for any PR firms the company hired, expecting them to make sure all coverage was positive, despite his father's prison sentence a few years earlier.
Ms Ward wrote: “The company burned through six publicity firms in about six years, because Jared and his father demanded the impossible of their publicists.
“They wanted the media to take dictation, and they went berserk if they didn’t get what they wanted.”

Employees at Kushner Companies partly put this down to Jared’s sheltered upbringing.
One former colleague reportedly said: “He had zero awareness he was born on third base,” a phrase referring to someone who was born with a silver spoon in their mouth, but still believes their standing in life is because of their own doing.
Another former employee said: “I think he thinks it’s all sort of this weird game and doesn’t understand that at the end of the day, people’s jobs are an important part of their lives.”
Among the 600 workers in the company, there were rumours that Jared’s summer internship at Goldman Sachs had been “deeply unimpressive” and that he had not put in the hours.

Most of the work he did for his father’s company was networking and relationship building, rather than anything solid or fact-based.
Colleagues acknowledged that this might be useful for his brand, but were sure it did nothing for the company’s bottom line.
One industry associate claimed he was “interfering” more than he was helping.
Jared also owned a newspaper called the New York Observer and hired Elizabeth Spiers to be the editor, as she was from the world of digital media and hoped to turn around the fortunes of the outlet to make it profitable again.

Ms Spiers was scathing about her former boss, claiming he had “zero intellectual curiosity” and had “little editorial vision”.
The pair had a series of conflicts during their time working together in 2011 and 2012, clashing on editorial issues that Ms Spiers believed “exposed Jared’s shortcomings as both a publisher and a person”.
For example, Jared asked Ms Spiers to publish an editorial defending Rupert Murdoch amid the phone hacking scandal in 2011.
When the article came out, it was far less glowing than he wanted, and he was infuriated that she did it without asking.

Ms Spiers claimed he had no interest in good writing, and did not seem to understand or respect journalists.
Ms Spiers managed to make the Observer profitable again, but the publication did not receive the additional investment that Jared has promised.
For this reason, she quit after just a year as its editor.
In this way, colleagues and employees of Jared who worked with him both in real estate and in journalism found him a difficult character to work with.
With such an important position as the President’s senior adviser for strategic planning, it seems likely he may now be clashing with White House staff who have to work under him.
