Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will host President Trump and first lady Melania Trump for tea during their state visit to the United Kingdom next month.
The royals will welcome the Trumps to Clarence House, their official residence in London, the same day both couples are scheduled to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s state banquet, according to news reports.
It’s the first time Prince Charles, the heir to the throne, has hosted an American president.
The president met the prince during the latter’s visit to New York in 2005. Trump and Prince Charles were also both present at former President George H.W. Bush’s funeral in December.
Trump and the first lady met the queen at Windsor Castle in July 2018 when they were invited for tea.
The Trumps will be in the U.K. from June 3-5 for the state visit. The president will also participate in a bilateral meeting with British Prime Minister Theresa May and attend a ceremony in Portsmouth to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.
Prince William and his wife, Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, are also expected to attend the banquet June 3. Prince William’s younger brother Harry and his American wife, Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, will not be in attendance. Markle recently gave birth to their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
Before marrying Prince Harry, Markle, then an actress, called Trump “misogynistic” and said she would consider remaining in Canada where she was filming, if he won the 2016 presidential election.
