Earlier this month, we learned that Donald Trump thought Ivanka
would’ve been the perfect person to run the World Bank. “She would’ve
been great at that because she’s very good with numbers,” the president
told The Atlantic. “I‘ve seen her under tremendous stress and
pressure. She reacts very well—that’s usually a genetic thing, but it’s
one of those things, nevertheless. She’s got a tremendous presence when
she walks into the room.” At the time, it was estimated (by us) that
Trump was the only person on earth who thought his daughter was remotely
qualified to run the international financial institution. But,
apparently, there was at least one other individual who thought Ivanka
could’ve held her own in the role: the First Daughter herself.
Speaking to the Associated Press on Wednesday, Ivanka confirmed that her father asked her if she was interested in succeeding outgoing president Jim Yong Kim
at the organization. She turned the opportunity down, but not because
she knew her professional experience was such that, were this a regular
job, a recruiter would have looked at her résumé and asked, confused, Wait, which position are you applying for? I think there’s been a mistake. Instead, according to the First Daughter, she said no because she was “happy with the work” she’s currently doing.
